Well it's finally arrived. Forget the number of sleeps until Xmas - this is what I've been counting down for! My Brother (Lucky bugger that he is) saw the Herald Sun preview on the 18/12 and all he's said is 'It's the best of the 3 movies by far' (He was under strict instructions not to give details). So I've avoided previews/reviews and T.V spots like the plague - I want to be surprized this time.
In little under 2 hours the conclusion to this huge epic concludes. Has it really been 3 years? So if you're going to the 09:30 session at Knox I'll see you there!
And then home to watch the cricket - ahhh life is good :)
Post your impression of the movie here if you see it today!
Cheers

i watched it on tuesday, and thought it was really good. There are a few things that would have made it better (little more magic eh), but hey you can't have everything.
It was probably a little too predictable though, having not read the books (i know blade, pretty sad), i guessed what was going to happen on more occaisions than i would have liked.
Overall this installment rates a 9/10 for me.
Please no spoilers you bastards or at least some for-warning of any you may drop :)

Ok I have just come back and all I will say in deference to PtP! (And others who have yet to see it) is that it was quite incredible, the extended edition will make it even more stupendous, but for mine...
10/10 - Peter Jackson is a genius.
As more people see it we'll talk specifics.
Cheers

And you have to say that is so hard to believe just by looking at the guy ;) BUT he has done a brilliant job with the trilogy.

Yeah I agree but Peter Jackson remains (For the most part) faithful to the books in the 'Extended Editions' (Thus far) so I'm not too worried. Having read the book about 30+ times and studied it at Uni the omissions were very obvious but I can see why they were missing (As they were in the first two films). Given the scope of the story I'm stunned it was ever made into a film in the first place.
If I had one major criticism of the filmed versions it was that Peter Jackson created story arcs / events that simply never took place in the books. If it didn't happen in the book then it shouldn't have appeared in the film. The one that grates the most is the Worg attack in The Two Towers - particularly when Aragorn goes over the edge of a cliff - huh? The other one from The Two Towers was when Faramir take Frodo & Sam to Osgiliath - that NEVER happened in the books - he released them from the caves after he realises his Brother Boromir acted dishonourably. When I saw the two Hobbits in Osgiliath I thought Tolkien must be turning in his grave! These new scenes might make for exciting viewing but they simply didn't happen in the book(s) so why do it? There's a ton of other things that shouldn't have been there but *shrugs* it was his film and his vision.
Still waiting to hear what Onslaught thought of it.
