http://www.dvd9.com has been good for us.

It's overseas, but movies arrive in a few days.

Minimum of 2 per order.

You'll have to buy your own blank case and put in the cover they provide.

Not had any problems with them.

Cheers,
Max

Region coding is like NTSC/PAL versions in video games. Australia is "Region 4" and all dvd players sold in Australia MUST be able to read region 4 dvds. This is to stop you buying dvds in bali etc and only paying 5 bucks.

I suggest a cheap dvd player. Eg. i have an OMNI dvd player and it plays all region dvds, VCDs, MP3s and even DIVx movies. Kmart are currently selling dvd players for about $70 - $80, but check JBs, Strathfield and even Aldi supermartket.

Apparently, it is considered anti-competitive behaviour for dvd players in australia to be region locked.

You will find that the majority of dvd players will be region free (newer models).

If your going to get a dvd player, make sure it has the following as a minimum.

cdr, cdrw, dvdr (+ and -), dvdrw (+ and -), mp3, vcd, svcd, kodak picture.

I bought a Conia player for $80 at the good guys. It plays all of the above and does it well. The only thing with it is, that it only has 2 channel audio, one s-video connector, and one digital out connection.. But for $80 who can complain.

Some cheap brands are good, others are not...Omni i think is a japanese brand and they make good electronics but like fragbait said, for 80 bucks you cant complain.

The good Omni dvd players are rebadged Malata dvd Players, quite good. The Omni 3200 progressive has stood the test of time. We now use the Digitrex DVD recorder for watching movies now though.

Almost all DVD players are multi region, some may need to be unlocked with a code. It is illegal to sell a DVD player that is trully region locked in Australia (thank you ACCC).

Some newer cheap brands can also play DiVX cd's as well, I guess it uses the v4 codec so they don't have to pay the DiVX company. So would it play newer DiVX movies thaat require v5? guess it wouldnt play Xvid codec either. Maybe it can be easily updated with a cd version upgrade or somethig.

I know there are a bunch of divx players out that play divx 3.11a, 4 and 5, plus xvid.

Here's one: http://www.sandtone.net/psaspecials.htm

Thinking of getting one.
