I was also listed as a Hacker for a short time on sydausgamers website for using a no-cd crack in Ravenshield. Something which PB kicks for.
(sorry I was going to ask this in hacker topic but it was locked)
Out of curiousity I was wondering why PB is programmed to pick up this kind of activity?
I paid good money for most of my games and had considered downloading some no_cd cracks purely because I find it frustrating finding the cd's and putting them in when all I want is a quick game without the frustration.
Cheers,
Max

I sort of assume its for two reasons.
1. UBI pays PB company for Punkbuster support and advised them they wanted people using No-cd cracks kicked
2. When replacing the .exe file for Ravenshield you also need to replace the core.dll file as well. If it doesnt kick people for replacing those files they could be ussed for cheats, they might already use core.dll for hacks, I don't know.
In the end Sydgamers website had tons of people listed as cheats for the same reason, I emailed them regarding this and they took off the list because PB bans anyone that is actually using a cheat/hack anyway.

Also, unlike the United States, Australian's do not have the right to make Backup copies of software we own. Although many software applications include this in the software's licence agreement anyway.
Funny that many games like Splinter Cell Pandora tomorrow do not allow the use of virtual drives, in fact you cant even play pandora tomorrow if the computer has a virtual drive installed (even if its not being used) hows that right?!!
There is no actual problem with a no-cd exe, the problem is any file that that is not genuine can not have its integrity checked and it has been known to add hacks within that exe or assosiated libary files..

Yeah thats right, ultimately I prefer playing games without needing the CD. but if it means I might be playing an online game that is more open to hacks, I can live without it.
The orginal reaosn I played Ravenshield with a no-cd crack wasn't because I wanted to protect the CD, but because I didn't have a seperate CD-rom and my DVD-burner doesn't handle some copy protection very well.
In other news, I played Thief 3 last night, I hadn't really checked out previews or anything for it before hand. I'm pretty impressed, big big levels with heaps of houses to rob from, lots of civilians, city guards, etc.
The lighting looks good, most of the textures look good. The animation isn't quite as good as Splinter Cell when playing in 3rd person view (either view is fine in the game).
I hardly know the story line so far, one thing that is good and bad is that If you wanted to, you could systamically roam through the big city, killing every single civilian and city guard roaming the street, and pretty much everyone in doors (apart from some characters that are essential) till there is only a few people left. You'd think they would call in the local garrison or something to hunt you down.
In the end, if you are going on a kill spree, you arn't playing it as a thief and won't be getting much out of the game. On the other hand, you could go through the game without killing anyone apart from a few essential people.

I found that I was having trouble installing lots of games; only way to get around it was to copy the files from each disc onto my hard drive, install it that way. Otherwise, the installer would say it couldnt find the main cab files.
However, when I got True Crime: Streets of LA, I used this method to install it, but it still wouldnt play, saying I had virtual drives installed (which I do, 1xDaemon Tools DVD drive). Anyway, I search around, found out it wasnt Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% that was causing the problem, but CloneCD, which I never use.
I find it funny that games developers can include code in their programs which disallows the use of legal retail software, when they cant do anything against programs which are used for less legal means, like DTools and Alcohol, which update as soon as they try.
Bah, that was me, a format and the forums still wont keep my login.

Here is the image.
Image quality is poor because they were converted to jpgs with mspaint.
I have this and others in bitmaps that have a higher quality but are 3mb in size.
Great, but could we move it to another thread, this one actually had some interesting conversation going in it :)
