Westpac warns customers of 'ghost' Internet Banking site

Westpac Banking Corporation today advised customers to ignore emails requesting confidential information such as User Ids and Passwords following the detection of a 'ghost' Internet Banking site located in the US.

Westpac views all matters of security and confidentiality with the utmost priority and the bank has taken action to have the site shut down via the Australian Federal Police and the FBI.

Some Westpac customers may have recently received a hoax email containing a link to the ghost website located in the US.

The presence of the ghost site was detected by Westpac's IT Security team today during a routine security check. Soon after customers began to bring the unusual email to the bank's attention.

Customers can check they are linked to Westpac Internet Banking by:


Checking the URL is https://olb.westpac.com.au/
Observing the locked padlock symbol located in the bottom right corner of their browser
Clicking on the locked padlock symbol to check the certificate
If customers have concerns they should change their internet banking password or contact the Westpac Internet Banking team on 1300 655 505.

Yeah I dont use internet banking....never trusted it enough. Also I know moer about the banks comp systems than is good...(gotta love merchant bankers they trade everything ;)) not taht I smart/dumb enough to use it :(

not nice
