Can't Connect To Steam

Unable to connect to the Steam network. Offline mode is unavailable because the 'Exit and logout' option was used when you last exited steam.

I'm getting this steam error and cannot connect. Seems others are too, as per this thread on steampowered.com

Wonder if it has anything to do with the thread willy started below:

Starting July 26th the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st.

This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account.

looks like maybe a prob with the valve network, or maybe due that WON is going down, might be preparing it and is conflicting with current valve network???

just a guess

could be a number of any reasons why its not working, just wish they would hurry up and fix it.

yeh steam was down.. ever have troubles try deleting registry blob in main steam folder.. then login.. it will update that agian and sometimes fixes things

Not sure if it's working as I didn't even switch on the computer last night.
