Well considering they said it was days away from going gold not long ago, methinks we will be seeing it in the next month or so.
Steam being updated to have an inbuilt store to purchase and download games via steam today also sort of points to a release soon.
I need an upgrade :(
ps. Hi Rusty!

Quote from Gabe, from hl2fallout forum today
"HL/2 pre-load will begin tomorrow. It was ready yesterday, but we decided to use the bandwidth to get out the VST (ed note: Video Stress Test) first since I get pelted with zillions of questions from people asking how their PC will run Half-Life 2."

You can burn the cache files to cd if you wanted to cx, so to reinstall you would install steam (600k file) then copy cache files back into steam apps folder and login.
Last time I formatted I just copied the whole Steam folder onto another PC, then copied it back once I had formatted. All worked fine.

I can download form steam content like CS source beta, updates, etc at around 1mbit per second so combined with the preload of textures/sounds and stuff that will be happening soon, when the game is released, shouldnt take long to download at all.
