Just tried it out, the beta source map is de_dust, visually the game looks great, textures are great, map complexity is high, ping is as good as HL1, etc.

Among many of the new cool effects like floating dust, smoke, etc. people on the servers are going nuts over the flashbang effect, but anyone whos played ravenshield bedore has already seen the cool effect really.

The player models look good and the rag doll physics doesnt do any spine breaking wacky shit like ravenshield to many versions back.

They have increased the M249's rate of fire to something a bit more realistic, kicks a bit of arse now. In the end its still CS, good for a bit of fun but prefer to be playing Day of Defeat or natural selection. The source version of day of defeat wont be out at HL2's release, suppose to be about a month after.

Try out the video stress test from the main menu, shows some pretty good looking visual effects. Another great thrill is looking at processes in task manager and seeing HL2.exe :)

Update: The water in the stress test benchmark level is the best i've ever seen. From looking at benchmark results i'd say that HL2 will play at a pretty good speed on average systems.
