I'm looking at buying a new 19inch monitor - could anyone give me some feed back on the monitors they are using what quality is like? ie. refresh rate at 1280x1024?
Thanks

I don't spend that much on upgrading my computer but my monitor is the one feature I splurged on a bit. I figure that if the monitor isnt any good then the rest of the pc is wasted a bit.
I have a Philips 109P Brilliance 19" flatscreen. Got it about 2 years ago, there's been a couple of revisions since then.
refresh rate at 1280 is 100hz I think. I run it in 1024x768 with 120hz refresh rate.
max res is 1920xsomething.
It's a bit of overkill for gaming and general computing but it should last me for a long time hopefully.
I strongly recommend Philips as a brand, just as good as Sony (some components are sony in fact) for a fair bit less money.
You might want to check out there B and T series monitors instead of the P series as they're still good qaulity but cheaper.
It depends on your budget but don't knock LG or Samsung as other brand to look at as they provide excellent value for money.
I don't know what type of monitor you have but when I got this to replace my old 15" I was blown away my the superior image, particular the colour saturation. I love it.
One other thing is go flatscreen, if you are tossing up between a 19" curved monitor and a 17" flat get the 17".

yeah the G400's are good.
I was tossing up between that and the 109P.

If push comes to shove and my current monitor becomes unbearable in a hurry i'll probably go for something cheap like the LG T910B for $375 I'm pretty sure its flat screen and has a reasonable refresh rate of 85hz at 1280x1024.
Willy I think I'll be able to track down the refresh rates for the LG's but what I can't find is how clear it is and how bright it is? As I'm forever increasing my gamma on my current monitor and I don't want to do that with a new monitor.
If my monitor hangs in there (AOC Spectrum 17") i'll try and save up for either:
a) Mitsubishi DP93SB - $650
b) Phillips 109P - $680
Is there any advantage running your philips at a higher refresh rate cyc's? I know stuff all about monitors really - and your right about it being pretty important so wanna do the best I can with a new one.
Basically my monitor made a high pitched whining noise tonight until I dropped the res down to 1024x768 so I'm guessing its on the way out! Can't complain really got it for $420 in 1999 and has served me well until now...wish I knew why it was making this noise though - so if anyone knows let me know pls!

I don't think so.
I think 85hz or greater is more than fine and places less strain on your eye's.
I do find 60hz to be pretty uncomfortable.
hehe, looks like the 109P has come down a bit in the last few years.
I paid $900 for it about 2 or 3 years ago.
I have the gamma set to default on my monitor (50/100), no need to increase it unless some cheap bastard is camping in DoD. Crank is up and it's like I'm holding a search light :-)
Yeah the flatscreen LG's are good, especially at that price.
they were around $500 when I was looking for my monitor.
Don't go thinking that LG are are poor brand, the problem with LG is that don't have a clearly defined market segment(MARK101 coming in here :-) and as such nobody know's what to expect because they make some really good products and some not so good one's.
I think that the LG Flatron products are very impressive for the price.
LG T910B , I havnt seen that model code before I'll have a look at it tomorrow and see what it's got.
I'm not sure if they make one in the 19" version but you should check out the philips 107T , very good monitor and you're not paying all that extra money for a P series in which half of the features you wont notice or use anyway.
And again if you don't want to spend heaps of money don't forget Samsung, their flatscreen monitors were the best budget models when I was shopping and these days Samsung are one of the world leaders in LCD monitor technology (not that you're after an LCD)

there was time i tried to run 1280x1024 @ 85hz .. since i am using 19" ... immediately i can notice a big difference
my eye hurts after playing around with it for about 5 mins.
for 1280x1024 .. i really recommend 100hz
