Copying Games 1st timer

I'm trying to figure out how to copy games for a mate of mine i dont even have a xbox anyway he went to a swap meet paid for a complete dvd movie ps2 xbox & lots more complete copying disc. it was riddled with virus but thats beside the point what is the best program to use what type of files do you need to create & is there still patches for every game if so where do you get them?
