Universal releases new photos and info from the upcoming film based on id Software's classic shooter.

The basic premise of the film places the characters in the year 2145, the same year as the recently released DOOM 3 videogame. Forgoing the Martian setting from the game, a group of marines is sent to a distant (unspecified) planet to secure a science lab under attack from creatures of unknown origin.

In addition to The Rock as Sarge, the film also stars Karl Urban as John “Reaper” Grimm, the formerly nameless space marine who acts as the film’s central character. It’s the biggest role to date for big role for Urban, previously seen as Eomer in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as major roles in The Bourne Supremacy and The Chronicles of Riddick.

The film also stars Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day) as Dr. Samantha Grimm, as well as DeObia Oparei, Ben Daniels, Raz Adoti, Richard Brake, Al Weaver, Yao Chin and Dexter Fletcher.

Why does it have to be an unspecified planet? Does Mars charge royalties or something?

My personal thoughts were the game was ok but all that eye candy all over the place and the whole game was spoilt due to the darkness of the whole game. Yeh it was meaant to be spooky but I thought a bit brighter would have been nice.

I stopped playing after 30 minutes due to:

a. crappy frame rate on a good pc with low-end graphics (9200SE)
b. darkness with daemons teleporting behind you - dying with the sound of 'urggghhh rahhhh' slash slash dead. Fun...yes. NOT.

c. Half Life 2 coming out a couple of weeks later.
It was worth waiting for. I'm sure the HL2 mods will kick any Doom3 mods as well.....
Except for maybe that useless Thief Doom 3 mod - now that Thief has a map editor...

ramble rabble rabble

I'll still see the movie.
I liked Doom 1 back in the day. Doom 2 scared me too much. Like Doom3.

doom 3 was ok - i liked the darkness, it made the game more atmospheric - so once at least they got the lighting realistic in a game - pity expansion was too short:drool:
