THE Victorian government is contributing $150,000 towards the establishment of a Melbourne campus of the Academy of Interactive Entertainment.
The Queens Road school will train computer game developers in a range of skills including 3D animation, computer modeling and design, said Minister for Information and Communication Technology Marsha Thomson.
It is scheduled to open for the first semester of 2004.
Ms Thomson said the new campus would initially create six new jobs, intake 80 students in the first year and be staffed by game industry veterans.
"The industry is telling us they need people with these kinds of skills and this will only continue to help fuel the growth of Victoria's world-class computer game industry," Ms Thomson said.
The Academy of Interactive Entertainment is recognised as Australia's peak non-profit registered training organisation for the Australian computer game industry and has operated from its Canberra base since 1996.
