Perhaps my sheltered cs/dod background has left me slightly clueless but this whole idea of "chasing" just seems a little fucked up/odd/bizzare/new zealanderish. I believe hak also shares this confusion.

I'll try to illustrate via an example.

In DoD, I guess you could sort of classify my role as "offense" but again, the whole team really needs to take part in the offensive moves for DoD.

Now for the example. If I was in the process of going to cap one of the Bad Guy's flags and I happen upon some little bugger with a Tommy gun who is attempting the reverse procedure on us, my standard pattern of thinking and action taking would go something like this...

1. There is a bad guy there.
2. Shoot bad guy in brain with k98.
3. Team says "good shot cyc" and much gay sex follows after match.

This is opposed to the TFC convention, which now I understand I have limited experience with so please bear with me, goes something like this...

1. There is a bad guy there.
2. Oh, he is an offense person as well.
3. That means we share a kindred spirit.
4. Quick hug, followed by wishing your opposing player good luck in capturing the flag.
5. You both frollick off on your merry way.

Now both have their pro and cons im sure, but surely you can understand from an outsiders point of view that the DoD/CS method is much more effective. Of course the games are rather different, what with our flags being stuck in the ground and all that so please feel free to shed some light on this for poor old Cyclo.

The light will come from those "leet" players in this so called "community".
Im basicly a defence player and rearly leave the FR/Base. But when I play in pugs as offence, I have to stop my self from shooting the other offence. But in reality Ill defend the flag on your cap point if nead be.

Im not one to follow rules and the like.

Both DoD and more so CS are glorified deathmatch unlike TFC which the only purpose in the game is to go and get their flag and bring it back and capture it, and if chasing was prevelent the defence at the respective flags might not as well be even in the game as the offence would be taking each other out on the bridge and not even make it to the flag.

Now there are maps like warpath, avanti, dustbowl that are more like DoD and these same rules dont apply and you just kill every mother you see.

also, the truce between between offence players doesn't really relate to chasing.

Chasing....

The best example is probably having your defense soldiers keep following the outgoing flag right into the enemy base, rather than giving up once its crossed the half-way mark of the map.

nar dave you're confused, chasing is mainly about offence players turning and shooting other offence players... if defence players were to defend their flag on the bridge that is not chasing, its still defending. However that is not generally accepted as it leaves no defenders back in flag room preventing a chain cap.

i did it vs WDW as i was quite confident of our other D members preventing chain cap :) I took out a few of em before succumbing to ambushs bridge spam :)

(another reason why defending on bridge is bad - our own offence gets spammed in the process, but hey whats new:P)

The oz community is the only TFC community that has Chasing afaik, then again we are the only community that allows white walls, and bans _special, but meh if means the difference between win or draw, fuck it i'll become a defensive medic @ flag, your there to win.
