This Day in Gaming for April 5th, 2007:

1991: Bullfrog Productions released Populous on the TG-16 in Japan. The TG-16 version was probably the best, as it included the expansion pack as well. Still, it's the same godsim that you know and love.

2000: Nikkei Online reveals that Japan may be experiencing a possible paradigm shift, since up to 60% of owners are using the PS2 primarily as a DVD player. Sony determines the natural course of action is to charge double the price for the PS3 so it can support an unproven format. Simply genius.

2005: A slightly deflated Lara Croft is unveiled to the world. Though her proportions are still quite exaggerated, Eidos believes this symbolizes a fresh start to the franchise. To their credit, Tomb Raider: Legends does revive the franchise.

Game quote of the day: "Long long ago, there were a man who try to make his skill ultimate." - Samurai Shodown 2
