This Day in Gaming for April 12th:

1990: SNK released Crystalis for the NES in Japan. Partially inspired by the anime "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind," Crystalis told the story of a cryogenically frozen warrior who awakens to find that the world has suffered an apocalypse. By wielding the legendary blade Crystalis, it is his destiny to restore mankind to its former glory.

1990: Taito published Qix for the Game Boy in Japan. A popular puzzle game, Qix's challenge to gamers was to capture as much territory as possible while avoiding a mysterious creature made of vector lines.

1992: Though Ganon had been defeated at the end of the original Legend of Zelda on the NES, he had only been sealed away. Link, a courageous teenager, is called upon to rescue his kingdom and stop the awakening of this evil entity once and for all in the epic Link to the Past, released for the SNES in the US on this date.
