TFC 1.6 WORKING!

Well everyone im proud to announce that after 2 days of fu**ng around with my steam and tfc i got it to work!

Im not really sure how, i think it might have been steam network congestion, because i kept timing out and pc hanging when i was trying to connect to servers
Now i can play on the WTF 1.6 server fine :)
For all those people who are having trouble downloading any of the mods using steam, try http://hybrid-fusion.com/~steam/
-read the instructions down the bottom

They are the files that steam automatically downloads, you will still have to automatically update half-life though, because the guy ran out of room on the server (ptp if you could help there give me a yell) for the Half-life and CS gcf's

yep i have steam working and it is great, get past the bugs and there are some great ideas, like messaging and playing board games with each other WHILE playing TFC ;D

checkers = great to play while bored defending 2fort bment :D

ptp or can someone pls help me with this i have download steam and it says when i was going to install bad instalion and Corrupt installation file! know what does this mean by that and where does the install program setup goes into what file and why does it not work so i need help on how to set it up pls ty

is it true that this steam is only for the cs people only ?
just been told from a friend of mine
and i would like some real answers please

like would u need steam for tfc?
would u need steam when having pracs,srcims,wars,etc?
cause to me i have dl this steam but what is it really for?
cmon someone give me some answers please :( im soo lost
and a bloody newbie at it also

Within a week or so you will need steam to play Half-life or ANY of its mods (CS/TFC/DOD/NS and others I cant think of) as the won auth servers will go down and authenticating will be done by steam.

is there anywhere or anyway i can get the maps without having to d/l them one by one from a server??

all the custom maps i had i just copyed out of my old /sierra/half-life/tfc/maps folder and dumped them into my /program files/steam/steamApps/Steam@Username/Team Fortress Classic/TFC/maps Folder and they work fine

I seem to recall steam was only for LPB's?????? Is that true? Obviously can't be true if it will replace WON.

Will I be able to install STEAM on one computer of our two (using internet connection sharing) and copy it over so I don't have to download everything twice???

My current install of half-life is over a Gb, I hope the download is significantly less than that.

I was going to ask about map downloads too but that's been answered, thankyou.

Will blade be donating his system to me so I can play HL2 in all it's glory?

Yeh you can.. Save the install also.. i did so if i need to re format ill burn to cd

its funny cause the steam actually cant pick me up, and i can connect fine. pity im banned from even -starting- cogs.
oh well, time to eat into my 500mb adsl plan :x

with the maps, the first time i ran 1.6, it took a while to Verify contents, i think it was reading the maps, but took abount 30sec extra, then was all fine

hmm on new maps, mine takes about a minute, then disconnects me with the message "timed out" so i have to rejoin it each time i play a map for the first time on tfc / dod / whatever

have you dumped all your old maps in there?

I have no intention of puting old valve maps in my maps dir because in the future smal modifications to maps will be past to you through steam and doing that is going to screw the whole update system up.

ill wait . do you know if the Cache has the maps?

i copied all my maps folder over, i had a problem with dustbowl i think it was, map differed from server but i just deleted it and i think steam dled it or something but it worked then :)

Yes it must as it seems to only take a minute or so first time you play a map which in most cases is not enough time to have physicly dl'ed it also the first day I had steam I went through and loaded most maps and I had nothing added to my days usage

u only dumped the Custom* maps, if you read what i said, all the standard maps where downloaded from steam when it updated tfc

Nothing will change you will be able to join a server with cogs/ase/steam browser, whatever takes your fancy

But how will thay authenticate Won id's ? I cant see valve doin somthing special for scumstra

it will be the same as now, just gotta re-direct the hl path is, nothing changes, cogs never did any WON authentication, that is all done in game
