This is an interesting article and has a few other Developers commenting about the hack. It's a 3-page read but well worth the effort. It's now become apparent that a lot more was stolen than Valve first indicated - a whole lot more. At least there was mention made of Team Fortress 2!
If you see or are offered this source code you should reject it on moral and ethical grounds. Besides - you'd have to be fairly resourceful to get anything out of the code and would have to understand C/C++ fairly well. Don't compromise your principles to sate your curiosity.
