Yeah I'm hoping for some competition. I love to watch Australia win but I also like a close game.

I reckon the DVD will be out in about 2 months :D

Cheers

yeah its too early for cricket i keep forgetting all about it!

yeah could have a couple of shocking one-dayers, the only decent one dayers are when AUS bats first so we can set a decent total (not have to chase 50 or something O_O)

tho our bowling line up just crashed with injury O_O ouch

To put it a little in perspective I saw some article, by Keith Stackpole I think, that said in the 3 test matches against the minnows of test cricket (I think it was Zimbabwe and maybe Bangladesh) Australia had lost a combined total of only about 17 wickets and at an average of about 105 per wicket.

But in Hayden's defence, the other members of the team didn't get anywhere near his score or with the same amount of aggression(except maybe Gilchrist) and timing over such a long innings, difficult in any game of cricket no matter how good or bad the opposition is. 380 even in a back yard game is special in my books. Lara's 375 was probably on a tiny west indian ground with boundaries close enough for even me to hit a six.

Heath Streak, the Zimbabwe captain, said he hadn't seen such good timing and aggression before, and said even mistimed hits went for six!

Cheers,
Max

Australian players have welcomed the new rules and initiatives that will feature in domestic one-day cricket this season.

At the launch of the domestic cricket season in Melbourne on Tuesday, they spoke positively in particular about the rule where batsmen will receive a free hit delivery following a foot-fault no-ball.

“It is important to push the boundaries of the rules and the game to try and give the public something to grasp hold of and also to probably extend the skills of the players,” New South Wales and Australian all-rounder Michael Bevan said.

“I been lucky enough to play in England under those rules and the crowds love it. It’s a great initiative and I’m sure everyone’s looking forward to that,” Redback Greg Blewett added.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland thought the free-hit concept, first introduced in England, would enthral crowds.

“The new free-hit should really provide some magic moments,” Sutherland said.

yeah, like a lot of sport, i worry that it is becoming far too sanitised at the elite level..

while i understand that role models are important for aspiring people at lower or junior grades, I do feel that it diminishes some of the intensity that makes the game great.. even more so with Aussie Rules.. but I'll leave that for another rant.
