This is one DVD Set I've been dreaming of since I heard about it very early last year. Ridley Scott (The best director in Hollywood besides James Cameron IMHO) has absolutely outdone himself with these re-releases of some of the best Sci-Fi films ever conceived (Besides the original Star Wars). The picture and sound have been completely revamped on all 4 films (DTS and new Digitally Enhanced film stock). Alien is being re-released at the cinemas this Thursday so if you've never seen it on the big screen (And I doubt most of you have given it came out in 1979 - except maybe Willy) then do yourself a favour - this movie still blows most modern films into the weeds for tension and set-design. I was only 12 (Jesus :-? ) when my mate and I snuck into Village Cinemas in the City to see Alien. It scared the absolute crap out of both of us but we didn't stop grinning for weeks after.

Best of all the entire Alien series is being released in a special box set (Which when open extends to 5' 4" long ! :) ). Release date is December 02nd in the U.S but I don't know about a local release (I wouldn't trust something this good to Region 4 crap anyway). Read the first of a multi-part review of the Quadrilogy at IGN:

Alien (Quadrilogy version extended) at IGN (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/458/458727p1.html)

I'm actually taking Thursday off to see Alien again. That film never ceases to amaze me and I've watched it countless times on laserdiss and DVD. I can only imagine what Aliens will sound like in DTS!

Now if only Ridley Scott would redo his best film - Bladerunner - in DTS.... ;)

Your a little young Palisade, but when Blade Runner came out in 82 (I think) it was kick arse. Maybe it was the first big budget movie using robotic like humunoids. The gunns and fx.

If you didn't get it then I guess you never will. For it's day it was way ahead of it's time. Concept, Effects, Story, Direction - all raised the bar. It was also never made due to budget restrictions. It was saved in the 11th hour by the Ladd Company. It's now considered one of THE Cult films of all time.

The original Philip K Dick novel has only a passing resemblence to the film Bladerunner and only retains a few of it's ideas. Nevertheless it's still an awesome book and is a forerunner to such works as William Gibsons 'Neuromancer' & 'Mona Lisa Overdrive'.

Worth reading for sure.
