Dreamcatcher Games announced today that it is working closely with NVIDIA on the anticipated horror FPS, Painkiller. The collaboration of the two companies will enable Painkiller to reach the highest levels of visual quality, while maintaining a consistent level of performance when played on PCs equipped with GeForce FX graphics processing units (GPUs), which is the preferred GPU of Painkiller.
In addition, Painkiller has been inducted into NVIDIA's "The Way It's Meant to Be Played" program, a consumer awareness and marketing program designed to promote NVIDIA-based PCs hardware as the best way to experience PC games on desktop and notebook PCs.
"Partnering with NVIDIA further proves how seriously people are taking Painkiller. NVIDIA's reputation is second to none, and we're convinced that Painkiller will look and play even better using their hardware", commented DreamCatcher's President and CEO, Richard Wah Kan.
Painkiller features truly stunning physics-based gameplay, frantic over-the-top action and some of the nastiest level bosses ever seen. Painkiller takes advantage of the feature sets and performance of today's newest graphics technology, more specifically NVIDIA's GeForce FX family of GPUs, to achieve new levels of texture detail and the latest lighting and shadowing techniques. Based on the proprietary 3D "PAIN" engine, which is able to output 100 times more polygons than other games in the genre, Painkiller also relies on the raw performance of NVIDIA's GeForce FX GPUs to achieve blazingly fast performance to keep gamers in a world of non-stop action.
"Painkiller represents a new class of PC games that is pushing the latest shader technologies to achieve cinematic-quality visual effects in real-time, without having to sacrifice performance," said Bill Rehbock, director of developer relations at NVIDIA. "We're pleased to lend our hand in the development and marketing of this game to ensure that gamers around the world get to experience Painkiller the way it's meant to be played."
Painkiller will carry an ESRB rating of M and will ship to stores in March 2004. DreamCatcher and NVIDIA will be hosting special sneak previews of Painkiller at the upcoming Cyberathlete Professional League® and Gencon events. For more information, please visit www.nvidia.com/nzone.
