BigPond will introduce new flat-rate broadband plans from tomorrow alongside its maligned capped download plans, according to a BigPond FAQ discovered by Whirlpool members.

From Monday, new plans will be introduced which will have 10GB of full-speed usage, followed by unlimited usage at slightly-better-than-dialup speed of 64Kbit/s.

However Telstra will also introduce plans with no pre-paid usage, and per megabyte rates of 19.9c per MB, exposing customers to an extreme risk of running up large bills. 1GB at this rate would cost $199, plus the plan fee. Telstra will clamp customers into two year contracts for these plans.

The change follows a weekend of free downloads for BigPond users, while the telco undertakes a "major network upgrade", affecting the usage meter.

Swiftel is not even a consideration for us in qld, swiftell up here is horrible and has been for a couple of months, like 200+ pings and 3-4 k download speeds and they havnt been able to fix the problem, so much so as they have been rebating peoples money for the 1.5 plan, Myself RELIABILITY is my number one concern and BPA are the most reliable and stable ISP in the country regardless of what the anti telstra fools would say.

Well that choice is yours but I know from what I have read that Swift wont laydown untill the problem is solved. And did you ever consider that the handfull of people that have complained may have other issues ie the exchanges etc that thay run through. If you have a trouble free adsl with gaystra you can almost guarantee a trouble free swift. My brother inlaw uses it in QLD and he has nothing but praise but the choice is yours. :?

Dont forget uploads are still counted with Bigpond.

I have moved to Internode 3 months ago, on the 512/128 unlimited plan, but now i am going to the node 1500/256 8gig, wish it was 12 gig
but hey on unlimited in the 3 months the most i downloaded was 7.5 gig, free uploads saves heaps of megs, i didnt realise how much uploads counted in the month with BP 3 gig till i moved. With 256 free uploads i can even share the warez. 8)

OHHH PS...i might suss out swift, i dont trust any isp and internode even less trust with the $80 per gig, but all the brown nose fanboys on whirlpool can not see through Simons shit. :realmad:

Just received this email from swift

Some Plan Download Limits Will Increase/Excess usage Charge Decreases
Swiftel will be increasing the download limits on most of its plans retrospective to 1st December. The downloads will be increased on all but the 1 gb 256 and 512 plans.

The excess usage charge will also be reduced from $6.00 per gb to $5.00 per gb.

The new plan changes will appear on the web site and on line order forms shortly.

No current user has to take any action to benefit from these download increases.

This is the 3rd such email I have received in the last 3 months It just keeps getting better :D

why is the BPA unlimited 10GB cable plan actually cheaper than the 3GB plan i'm on now? the only downside i can see is being slower after the 10GB which would be bad for gaming... but i have barely been using 3GB these days... and if 10GB is actually CHEAPER wtf not swap?

looks like i'll have to swap over for january ;)
