It's official, as of tomorrow (18th December). GameArena's Half-Life based mod servers (TFC, DoD, CS) will be transfered to Steam!
Remember to change your HL.exe location in COGS ;)
When you log into steam, look to see if you are using GA's Content server (hit the "status" button) so you also get free content updates... If your a Telstra customer that is :D
OOOO goody hope this fixes the latency. I get awesome pings when using steam :)

Merry Christmas for GA? :D
SUCK SHIT TELSTRA :D
We have been attempting to work with Valve Software in order to provide a guaranteed, usage free update for Bigpond broadband users but unfortunately we have been unable to secure their support to make some minor changes (such as the ability to pick a content server in the Steam client). As a result, users must be very careful when running the Steam client to ensure that any updates do not impact their monthly usage limits, as such updates may occur from metered sites.
At least some company has the balls not to bend over so telstra can ram it up their bum.
Sorry to all you Telstra guys looking for the free updates but with your 10 gig you can aford it now :D

I really think the "not giving the consumer a choice of content servers" is downright ludicrous!
Would you prefer to be downloading from Slaakenshite content server in Sweden at 10kb/s or from Telstra GamerArena content server in OZ @ 50kb/s?
I know where I'd prefer to be downloading for minimum waiting time, but Valve dont care about what we want.
Also with the 10gigs... I am happy in the fact I can leech all my progs, demos, patches, game vidz, linux operating systems, etc off GA, BP to my hearts content. Plus play one of 20+ different sorts of games without incuring 1 kb against my usage!
Have you seen the size of demos, patches and mods lately? Demo's are usually around the 250meg mark, patches around the 100-150meg mark and mods like EoD and Desert Combat are 500-750megs each!
Lets see any other service provider in Australia offering immediate access to that amount of files on the day they are released ;)
The update servers for steam are located in Aus. Valve has made sure that you dont have to wait 10 years for yur download to happen. And dont miss my point here my heart bleeds for you telstra babes that dont get free updates  but for now you just have to pay for them like the rest of us scum bags. 8)
Viss <-------Bin Laden of Telstra. :-P
I'd agree with GIZMO here!

that is wrong and that is the point that GA were trying to get fixed, like the other night there was a small update for steam and my content server was some shitty little server in the US and it took 15mins to get 560k so screw valve the fuckwits and GG GA trying to get something done right.
Hmm I dunno PtP mabey its your isp (lol) sorry couldent resist. I never have any problems with steam updates etc thay come down really fast, Anyway im not trying to stir shit here you know me I just hates Gaystra with a passion and everytime thay fall on their ass I get a little tingle and it makes me smile :D

Dont worry Viss, I felt exactly the same way about Telstra.... Till the new 10gig plan. Though one thing you can not deny. They do have the most proficient game servers in Australia! Most clans would'nt even have a place to war, scrim or prac if it was'nt for GA.
I'm not trying to be a Telstra suck-hole. But after they introduced this 10gig unlimited plan, it is the BEST deal in OZ! Free content server and free game servers. Free downloads of the very latest patches, drivers, mods, demos and programs. Plus the solidest ADSL network in OZ (seeing it IS the network in OZ) :P
P.S. Plus we also have COGSLAN! Which allows us to play a number of games via a virtual lan on COGS between friends for ZILCH against our usage!!! BEAT THAT OTHER ISP's

GA steam servers aren't that great imo
i findim getting smoother pings to WTF with around the equal amount of players
well at least my netgraph is a shitload more stable on WTF
I agree Eph and ping to optpus is much more stable aswell. :)
GA is much better now under steam, it runs as smooth as silk (fucked if I care about what little readouts say) and as far as optus is concerned you wouldnt find me there with their 5 snipers on the balcony of 2fort ;)
